These equipments effect a separation of materials based on their chemical-physical characteristics.

Some examples:

SEPARATOR OF NON-FERROUS METALS (polar separator with Foucault current).

Allows to extract automatically from a flow all the non-ferrous metal bodies (aluminum), thus obtaining a good quality aluminium fraction.

It is formed of the following elements:

•a horizontal belt conveyor, running at high speed;

•a secondary drum loaded with a magnetic field and placed at the end of thebelt conveyor.

The non-ferrous metallic materials that pass on the tape, when they come out of it, they undergo a repulsive thrust, due to the effect of the magnetic field, thus falling farther than the rest of the flow.

SEPARATOR OF FERROUS METALS (overband with permanent magnet or electromagnet)

It allows to extract automatically all the ferromagnetic bodies from a flow of materials carried by belt conveyor.

It is formed by the following elements:

•a suspended magnet, fixed on a frame;

•a belt coveyor, driven by a gear motor and running around the magnet, draining off the bodies that are attracted by the magnet.

Due to the effect of the magnetic attraction, the ferrous materials passing under the magnet are dragged upwards, until they are glued to the belt coveyor.

The belt coveyor drags them to the exterior and makes them fall on another belt or on a recovery bucket or in a hopper, which is directly connected to the press for the compaction of the cans.

OPTICAL SELECTOR

It allows to select automatically different kinds of materials; the loaded materials are spotted by one or more detectors (NIR, Colour, Induction, X Rays, etc…) and, on the base of this information, they are extracted by a system of compressed air nozzles.

 It is used for plastic matters [PET (divided also by colour), PE, PP, paper, newspapers, metals…].

Hofmann integrates all these selectors in its own plants, in order to optimize the working conditions and the performances.
